Gone
I have always had this naive thinking that no matter what evils abound in the world, there is always a reason behind.
Maybe deep down there is a hurting child forced to accept lies as truth. A hungry man driven to the point of madness, a mother fighting to keep her child from harm's way, like a wounded animal, a man so stripped of humanity to the point of murder, a person stripped off his dignity to the point of suicide -- lots of things. To my mind there are things that would drive one to act against his very nature. And still I believed that there is innate goodness in every man.
Whatever brought about what is happening in Iraq right now is something I cannot even begin to fathom. For what I have seen is more than evil. It is the death of something I have held so sacred, something that made me see light in the midst of darkness, something that made me trust in the goodness of man, something that helped me keep my sanity in this insane world of ours.
Today I feel that something is terribly amiss.
Last night, a spectacular display of light and stunning firepower marked the loss of my innocence, forever.
