Of Live And Living

Yesterday I got myself out of the house to get a life. I had to keep the thought of war off my mind for a bit. And there I found myself, walking into the realm of another warrior, who is fighting her very own war. My dear sister, Susan Luis Aycardo, with stage 4 cancer, launched another painting exhibit, and we, her family, and her very supportive friends came in full force.

It was a successful opening. My sister, who hadn't been feeling all that well the past few days, was truly in great spirits. She, who can't seem to get enough done with her time, has made a decision to go on with life and chase after her dreams. And cancer is not about to get into her way.

Her strength of spirit and passion for life is only too evident in her latest body of work, which she aptly titled 'Of Life And Living'. Her paintings are a real testament to the triumph of the spirit. By the end of the evening, a number of pieces were sold, giving her affirmation on how much her talent is truly appreciated, and adding more funds to her charitable cause of funding cancer treatment for those who are afflicted like her but could not afford the prohibitive cost of chemotherapy.

Battles are fought all the time. Some are won and some are lost. In my sister's case, the final outcome may be inevitable but hers is a picture of triumph in a war that she is fighting to the very end.
