Attraction
What is this thing called attraction? It is a word that has a carnal quality to it, a mystery, complicated in its abstraction. Something that lingers on like a scent, a mental image, a sticky note, a haunting lyric, a cherished secret, a favorite sin. I equate attraction to an intense emotion, a passion, a very strong reaction. It is not necessarily physical but it is something you feel in your bones.
Attractions are different for each of us, like different pre-set values of chemical equations that correspond to the ones that pull us with such magnetic force. Obviously I'm not talking about inanimate objects here. It might be a person, a place, a belief in something that is alive and intangible. Whatever it is, attraction is a go-go juice, something that awakens, arouses and stimulates.
So what is it about a person, place or belief that finds me so attracted? I find there is a certain smell to it, a sort of familiarity that I can almost but not quite put a finger to. There is this quality of knowing, like deja vu. It is not something that you see on surface level, or something that you probably do. But it is in 'seeing' through what's behind or what is seemingly hidden like a puzzle to which you have found the clue.
Attractions come in various forms or sizes, colors or prices. It is like a body of water which you can take a dive into, not knowing the depth underneath. It is something vague, vibrant, of value, something that cannot be taken away from you. It is there when you least expect it, that which adds more spice to life, it takes the drudgery out of living, for with it you feel more alive -- this thing called attraction.
