'Say Hello To My Little Friend ...'

Category: Pain

My artsy eldest daughter is very much her own person in thinking and attitude and dresses the part. Wild curly hair, dangerously colorful in dress, all those beads, the earrings, the piercings (nose, navel, tongue, but thank goodness not her brow), which makes me think (but hope against) that a tattoo couldn't be far behind.

My view about tattoos is that they're bound to be a hindrance whenever your body or mind should decide you don't want it anymore. I've only to see women who got tempted into having their eyebrows permanently tattoed on (out of inexcusable laziness to just use eyebrow make-up each time) who, after a few years, sport these fading greenish purple arches that are just a tad off the natural browline (and need to be enhanced with make-up anyway), the look of which, I'm sorry to say, pins them down to the other half of the horrible 80s (the other half are bushy Brooke Shields brows) which are really spillovers of the eyebrowless 70s. So, much as I've seen tattoos that actually work, the eyebrow one is the best example of why one shouldn't taint skin permanently in that manner, not to mention the danger of needle infection that goes along with it. Does Angelina Jolie ever think about this?

The other day, my daughter repeated a complaint about a pimple in her right hip that she said she's had all week that's really beginning to bother her. I asked to see the said pimple, finally, and found it missing. Instead, I got to say hello to her little friend, a brand new octopus, lodged on a badly swollen area outside her right pantyline. Whaaat?!!!? Fricken disaster, if I ever saw one.

Today is her third day in the hospital (and three days taken away from working her thesis), and she's bound for a minor procedure to bleed and drain her infection, which she says, is caused by an exaggerated pimple that happened to be in close proximity with her new-born octopus. Yeah, right, pimple. It's not funny at all. In fact, I'm really, very annoyed. And I'd be keeping away from those dingy little tattoo parlors if I were you.

I spent about two years looking for a design. Finally got tired, so I designed one myself. See it here:

Anyways, have you thought about why your daughter chose an octopus?

hi appellant,

yah i guess. although i'm meaning to ask her after we're done fighting about it. i'm just upset and she's too defensive that she hurt herself unecessarily.

aw, sorry to hear your daughter is in the hospital. I would be livid if my daughter did something like that, especially since it also affected her health. No, not funny at all. I hope she's ok now.
