Surviving Summer: Part 1

To submit to the monotony of things as reason for failing to blog for the past weeks is a lame excuse -- I can be more creative in apologizing for laziness, I'm sure. There is, after all, something to write about, even in the most uneventful of days.

The past few ones have taken on a die-cast, clone-like type of feel, with each day shining in the same infuriatingly sunny manner, where one is hard put to focus on nothing else but the heat. Yes, the hellish heat.

The rising temperature is now commensurate to the sharp increase in my own caffeine intake these days. Thankfully I'm prevented from being driven to totally heat-induced madness, courtesy of the essential one-calorie cola on the rocks, all the time, for survival. And I choose to survive.

Perk is the necessary attribute to adapt these days, even if away from the beach. Ask me about it. Perk is the only thing that allows me to even get out of the cold comfort of my own air-conditioned room to do something else. It also helps greatly that there is a neighborhood-wide re-piping of the waterlines and our street was earmarked for the past days, and having to put up with the maddening noise of furious concrete drilling is quite an assault on the senses. Again, I am totally amazed and impressed by my long-suffering tendencies.

But then, I can only be long-suffering in small doses. With vacation plans yet to be finalized due to varying schedules of family members, I have to content myself with temporary relief. Two trips are taking shape as I speak, but for the meantime, we have taken to malling and movie-watching, these very summer things to do. The great thing about it is that Be Cool got me really, really entertained and I highly recommend you watch it, The Pacifier was just exactly how my little girl wanted it, and Robots, for its unique color and animation and for being certifiably a little boy movie, quite appealed to my husband. Actually, not bad for the two-hour sessions spent in the cool darkness of the theatre, in shorts and sandals, with popcorn and soda, and definitely time spent well.

So granted that to drive in traffic is like going through a jungle of wild animals gone askew and ablaze with smouldering summer tempers, where a vacant mall parking slot is reason for families to fight, still, so far, we survive. Summer is very much here and still has a long way to go. The good news is I am coping very well, powered by the essential one-calorie cola, on the rocks, all the time, thank you very much.
