Usher In The 'Bers'

Yesterday while out in the mall, I was pleasantly surprised to hear my favorite christmas songs being played out on the central sound system.

It's here.

In the Philippines, it's not uncommon for the christmas season to be ushered in as early as September, the beginning of the BER months, for we have this predilection to celebrate over-extended holidays. It's probably because of religion and culture but more than anything, it speaks of the heart's true condition. Christmas, that time of cool weather and families getting together, is most of all the time of joyful giving. To look forward to a time like it shows that deep down the dark of seemingly endless adversities that has dimmed our collective spirit, a flicker of hope shines bright enough to lighten the path as we live through difficult times which we, as a nation, have had to endure these past years.

These are hard times, certainly, like I will probably never know, specially for those people who feel that the sun is not gonna shine for a long time in Beslan, Russia after the horrific school hostage crisis that killed hundreds of innocent lives. I wonder, what were they thinking?

Still and all, these things happen and we just go on, we have to.

These were my thoughts exactly while I was out in the mall, going about my business, yesterday. Still, it could not dampen my spirit, and nothing was to stop me from singing 'It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas ...'
