Fantasy World

Hollywood luminaries may be these magnets for idolatry and crazed stalkers but I seriously doubt that they earn our genuine affection.

For instance, do I care that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, the ultimate blonde couple, called it quits? Well, a little, and about time too if you'll ask me. Call me mean-spirited but Brad is just too beautiful to be had by only one exclusively, and anyone who does will not always be a favorite with lots of well-wishers. Go Jen, just ask the girls.

I felt the same way about Ben/nifer, and Tom Cruise and whoever happens to be the Cruisette of the moment. In my fantasy world, the Brads, Bens and Toms of the earth are best to be by their lonesome, and all the better for me to love them. Aww .. those boys!

We love them, these people. We lavish them with applause and adoration. We watch their movies, make them rich and famous, and give them just enough rope to hang themselves with. We own them, don't you see? So then, I wonder, is their celebrity worth the oppressive intrusion on their privacy? Only God knows.

So Brad and Jennifer have broken up and I, admittedly, am happy for it. I do feel a little sorry for their goldfish existence and wouldn't wanna be in their shoes nowadays. But for as long as they live out our fantasies for us, they are okay. Let them bask in their golden lives -- living gloriously, partying endlessly, loving loosely, let them. So long as there are no tears, for I have none to shed for them. and that's just the way it is.
