Bring Out The Bling
It's only by compulsion of habit that I even open the newspaper, which is something I want to unlearn, the sooner the better. I've always thought that when you see figures indicated on the headlines, chances are the numbers indicate bad news. I hate numbers, always have.
This morning there were no numbers on the news, only a warning of another power rates' increase. Nowadays (nowamonths, nowayears?), we do not lack for bad news, oh no, not at all. So this, much as I realize that it does actually affect my daily operations now, should not really surprise me anymore. There's been a trend anyway -- a really, really bad trend of things going steadily and progressively screwed up.
Now that I'm done bitching, I realize I'll do well to implement energy conservation steps around my household, and I've already thought up a few, none of which involves scrimping on the lights for my christmas tree.
It's always a joy to bring out the old tree and this time around, I'm putting her up early than usual. After all, there's nothing better than the thought of Christmas to bring in the good vibes. It's always worked for me, so I sure hope it works for the economy.
This year as in the previous, my tree will be decked out with balls of different sizes in varying shades of pink (fuschia, old rose, powder), blue (royal and powder), and in between irridescents, with silvery icicles and trimmings thrown in for good measure. My tree alaways ends up looking like a flashy courtesan but for me, the more, the merrier, the screamier, the better!
Our creativity in fixing up the tree is always a challenge, but it's a concerted effort all the time (by me, hubby, kids), and that is why long after we've put up the last star on top, we couldn't help but love our handiwork everytime we sit down to admire our precious tree.
It's a consolation to know that despite the ever-changing world where things get none the better for it, still, some things remain the same. And where I'm coming from, Christmas will always be Christmas for as long as I have my christmas tree standing.
