Trifles
Have you ever woken up to the smell of ripening guava? I just did, from a handful of them, picked from the good neighbor's tree, now sitting with the papaya and mangoes on my cast iron fruit basket. Sweet and pungent (and not unlike rotting matter), the smell shrouds the still air like a heavy blanket, here at 4:23 am. The birds will be happy. Yes, they will be because I don't have enough of the guavas to sour the fish soup I was thinking to have prepared for lunch, so they are certainly having the guavas, on top of the birdseeds, instead. You see, we have adopted a whole flock of little birds who come to sit by the fence every morning, because the mahogany tree outside has, for its lowest branch, one that's high above the roof level of the split-level home accross. That certainly doesn't sound like a good perching station for little hungry maya who will sing to you for a dip in the bird bath and the hope of some breakfast. These little creatures of God, you wonder how they survive, and they do, amazingly. And it doesn't hurt to think that some bits and orts coming off your table help send them along their way and tide them over till lunch for most days.

Due to an irrevocable item in my New Year's List, I will be missing the Grammies, to be shown at 9am, because I have a Genesis class to attend at 10am. Yes, I thought, I may as well become a bible student and not just a casual daily devotional reader, since I resolved to read the whole bible this year anyway, and will, not just for the heck of it. 33 Thursdays and I am on the third now, and so far, getting more fascinated by the Creation account, which comes to be more convincing each passing week. Of course it has to be coupled with faith, for which I took a big leap some time ago, and I'm holding pretty well, thank you. So never mind that I'm gonna miss Mariah Carey's number, even if she may win a whole bunch of trophies, because frankly, I don't care much for her. I am just hoping to catch even just a bit of Madonna do the opening number before I leave, so I can gawk and wonder on what she must have traded in with Satan to be able to keep doing what she does at 47.

I imagine it smells very tranquil and sweet where you live.
What Madonna traded: her soul? :)
I like the idea of reading the Bible all over again. 'Problem is, I have yet to find a teacher.
hi john, it smelled like a tropical fruit salad around here yesterday morning, and most mornings really, except for tuesdays at around 8 when the flytruck comes around ;) tranquil, well, not when antonia wakes up on the wrong side of the bed, like yesterday morning, and her dad caught her being impudent with me over the white bread on her ham sandwich that she said was supposed to be wheat. a scolding ensued, of course ... :(
ha ha ha, dr. emer, diba? ;) the thing is i caught the grammies again around 9:30 pm last night but after madonna's already, sayang. but i should say that bono is really one class act.
wow, i'm impressed that you've read the bible already. i'm presently into the boring part where i'm reading about the specs on the 'ark of the covenant' and burnt offerings ( Exodus and Leviticus), which makes me nod out all the time. good thing that the Genesis class is really interesting, and when you think about it, the creation account does not directly clash with any proven science findings as of yet. as far as i know, the darwin theory is nothing for as long as the missing link is not found. and i'd really hate to be related to kinkong, you know ;)
